However, trying to hold a heavy crossbow in one hand and aim a wrist mounted hand crossbow in the same hand that is holding the heavy crossbow sounds a bit challenging. Otherwise, I don't see how you would be able to load the wrist mounted hand crossbow with the same hand it is mounted on. If you are holding a two handed crossbow in one hand, you don't have a hand free to load the hand crossbow unless it is on the same arm as the one holding the heavy crossbow. This assumes that your setup still leaves you with a hand free for loading the crossbows. I want to work within the parameters of the ruling since my DM runs most rulings as RAW. Is it reasonable to say that if I attack once with a heavy crossbow and once with the hand crossbow, then I use a bonus action to follow up with another hand crossbow attack? I would still use a one-handed weapon with one of my attacks, after all. With the last clause in mind, it says that I can use a bonus action to make one attack with a hand crossbow I am holding as long as I attack with a one-handed weapon. When you use the Attack action and attack with a one handed weapon, you can use a bonus action to attack with a hand crossbow you are holding. ![]() Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls. You ignore the loading quality of crossbows with which you are proficient. Thanks to extensive practice with the crossbow, you gain the following benefits: The Crossbow Expert feat allows for a lot of fluidity with crossbow combat, but how far could I push it? She'll be entering the Eberron campaign at level 4 as a special operative type of ambusher. Okay, so I'm building a battlemaster fighter that uses both a repeating heavy crossbow and a wrist-mounted hand crossbow actively in combat. Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk point being, yes, you'd want it Repeating anyway.Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse Perhaps attaching a cord to the shoulder and pulling down to set-and fire, then raising up to cycle the mechanism for another shot? Anyway. I'd imagine an inventive player could set up some method for pulling the reload levers one-handed (since I believe officially you'd still need two hands to be able to fire-and-reload). So while Endless Ammunition would give you an endless supply of bolts, a Hand Crossbow would still be a Move-action to reset, unless it was Repeating. So, while this may appear to be a weird contradiction in how things are handled, if you look at a real repeating crossbow design then you should realize they really were significantly easier to load and fire rapidly. Just adding a magazine to drop in the bolt seems like it wouldn't help, but it's actually a complete redesign of the reset mechanism. Note that the longer actions for the other crossbows aren't just in reloading, but also in resetting them - pulling the string back by hand/lever/winch (for hand/light/heavy crossbows respectively) doesn't actually reload it, just resets it - dropping the bolt in is a free action at that point. The wording on the Repeating Crossbow makes reloading a free action (pull the lever). /r/3d6 - For character creation, advice and sharing (system agnostic)./r/Battlemaps - For your VTT battlemap requirements./r/Tabletop - For your general tabletop gaming shenanigans./r/lfg - Looking For Group, find other players, etc./r/RPG - For general, non-Pathfinder related RPG discussion./r/Starfinder_rpg - For dedicated discussion of Paizo's Science Fantasy system and setting./r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker - To discuss the Owlcat-made computer RPGs./r/Pathfinder2e - For dedicated Second Edition discussion./r/Pathfinder - For Pathfinder Society Organization/Discussion.Other subreddits you might be interested in: Fillable character sheets and intelligent character builders. Some of these tools and resources include the following: ![]() We have a Wiki page that includes links for various useful tools and resources, most of which have been provided by the members of this community.
